The point

While there are no readers and no content yet, I'd like to start with a general post about what this blog is for. This is a choose-your-own-adventure site that will mix original interactive fiction pieces (set up very much like the old cyoa books--if you fight the dragon, turn to page X; if you run away, turn to page Y) and reviews and critiques of other sorts of interactive fiction, from the classic adventure books of R. A. Montgomery to video games such as the Elder Scrolls, Fable, Fallout, and Mass Effect series, to name a few.

The original fiction pieces will be set up like little games, with you the reader as the protagonist with the ability to shape the narrative at key points and earn different endings. There will also be little textual games here and there where you can swap out certain words in a text with another set to create a more bizarre story--think, the UFO endings from the Silent Hill series. That's the lofty goal I'm after--joke endings.

So right now I'm working on developing a few small tales with branching paths. Nothing too complex yet, because I want to practice making more manageable texts before I start diving into huge narratives in which the reader's decision on page 1 alters the ending on page 1057. And I don't want to string a series of self-contained episodes into a loose narrative in which actions don't accumulate but rather seem to happen in a vacuum (I'm looking at you, Fable, where I can be an irredeemable, world-class dickhead my entire life but old ladies still ask me to look after their child/dog who wandered into the CAVE OF DEATH).

So that's about it for now, what you who stumble on this blog and stick around can expect.
